Probably as common as this misconception is would be how often people seeking low fog get duped from unscroupulous temporary Halloween type outlet store owners who trick them into thinking their machines will deliver what everyone is looking for: cold fog. We find so many disappointed buyers coming to us after they have already bought a fog machine from this type of store with strict no-refunds policies and it didn't make low fog, so they return to the same store and buy yet another machine, this one claiming to make cold, low-lying fog.... but it doesn't. It makes semi-cooled-down fog that rises into the air almost as fast as the typical fog machine. Now they are stuck with 2 machines that don't do what they wanted to start with.
Since " ground-fog" or "Halloween fog" machines such as the Mister Kool and similar are, from what we have personally seen, all machines that are based on early technology that we developed on the decade-long journey to developing the Vortex chiller line you see here. These small "breakthroughs" and techniques that had worked to some small degree had once been posted as how-tos on the internet in an effort to share the known methods of chilling fog that was as of yet unperfected. These products now sold in stores from big box to the temporary outlets are clearly unable to produce a truly chilled fog - for many reasons. We know exactly what these reasons are and why they don't really work. We took those instructions (similar how-tos of our originals still remain across the internet, usually showing a fogger sitting on top of a cooler with a bend industion inlet connecting the two as we first showed in the mid 90's) down off the internet so people wouldn't waste their time repeatedly making these contraptions that almost worked. We now offer such offordable chillers in all sizes that it makes no sense to try to assemble one yourself, since purchasing the saws and specialy tools needed to actually assemble one in the correct way for it to work like you see on our videos would cost more than the chiller itself.
Some folks will nevertheless want to tackle the challenge of making their own version of a fog chiller every Halloween, but as long as they are attempting to chill hot fog down from nearly 200 degrees using just ice cubes, in our opinion, its never going to work without using the delicate and precise Vest(tm) technology that took us 10 years to perfect. Had there been a way for the ice cubes to do the job, we are pretty confident we would have found it. And since our chillers work much like the carburator on your car, where the slightest adjustment can be made and the car simply would not even start, it makes this more of a science than simply a technique.
Our next section goes into how to go about making real low lying fog and cuts through the mystery shrouding this illusive yet highly desirable effect.

Since low-lying fog is the most sought-after fog effect of them all, we address this topic first in our series. Perhaps the most common mistake new low fog...
